The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Abeiku Santana, has revealed plans to officially appoint Hamamat Montia and Wiyaala as tourism ambassadors in a move aimed at amplifying Ghana’s cultural identity and indigenous products on the global stage.

Speaking during an interview on Joy News, Abeiku Santana said the two celebrated personalities were selected through engagements led by the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Dzifa Gomashie, as part of a renewed push to reposition Ghana’s tourism brand.

Under the initiative, Hamamat Montia, a model and entrepreneur with strong international appeal, will serve as a tourism ambassador for shea butter, promoting the locally produced commodity as both a cultural and economic symbol of Ghana, particularly Northern Ghana.

“Hamamat will be commissioned specifically to champion shea butter as a tourism and cultural product,” Abeiku Santana explained. “Wiyaala is also joining the team. The Honourable Minister has engaged both personalities to help push this agenda.”

Hamamat has built a global reputation beyond modelling, emerging as a vocal advocate for natural skincare and shea-based products, while empowering women-led enterprises tied to the shea value chain.

Award-winning musician Wiyaala, known for her unapologetic celebration of African identity, language, and traditional aesthetics, will take on the role of promoting Ghana’s cultural heritage. Through her music and performances, she has consistently projected Ghanaian culture onto international platforms.

According to Abeiku Santana, the move aligns with a broader strategy by the Ministry of Tourism and the GTA to harness the influence of prominent Ghanaians in driving destination marketing, boosting local industries, and showcasing the country’s rich cultural assets to a global audience.

The commissioning of the two ambassadors is expected to further strengthen Ghana’s visibility as a cultural and tourism powerhouse, while spotlighting homegrown products and creative expression.
