Who would have thought that Hearts of Oak would lead the Fhana Premier League table for even an hour in March 2025?

It is not a dream, it is very real. The Phobians are on top of the table for the first time in the entire season, albeit the results on Sunday will surely push them down the log.

Aboubakar Ouattara’s Hearts of Oak made it double over Young Apostles with a 2-0 win at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in the first game of the resumption of the league.

Hearts of Oak needed to bounce back from the MTN FA Cup defeat on penalties in round 16 against Division One League side Golden Kick. The team looked mentally and physically weak in that embarrassing defeat but looked so organised and ready for war on Saturday night in Legon.

Micheal Awuah Mensah’s opener on the stroke of half time helped Phobia take a lead before the break. Young striker Hamza Issah doubled Phobia’s lead with just two minutes into the second half. Issah’s goal was so important because it ended Young Apostles’ chance of coming back into the game.

Hearts of Oak has won 36 points from 20 games and is on top of the log for the first time this season.
