Accra Hearts of Oak was languishing at the bottom of the Ghana Premier League after round 2. The club had won no point with fans calling for the axing of the Ivorian head coach Abubakar Ouattara. He promised to turn things around and has done it successfully, as the club is unbeaten in their last five matches in all competitions with just four points separating them from 6th position and 1st.
“The teams competing to win the Ghana Premier League are many. Bibiani GoldStars, Nations FC, Medeama, Heart of Lions, Hearts of Oak, and Asante Kotoko are all fighting for the title,” he said when speaking to Original FM.
When asked if winning the league was his target, Ouattara responded with an analogy. “Let me ask you a question: enrol in secondary school, what is your target?” The interviewer replied, “To pass.” Ouattara continued, “If you say it is not your target to win the league, why are you playing? We are competing for the title, and if it comes to pass, it will not be a surprise. If it doesn’t happen, too, it will not be a surprise.
The Ivorian, at the beginning of the season, made it clear that Phobia can’t challenge for the title but has changed his words with just only one-third of the season done.
Phobia travels to Kumasi in week 13 of the Ghana Premier League on 15th December to face perennial rivals Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
A win will make the supporters believe the words of Ouattara.
