Herve Roger Renard, 55, has agreef to be the new Nigeria head coach after accepting to reduce his salary which was the only thing left in the negotiations.

29-year-old Corinthians forward Gabi Portillo’s 82nd minute strike was enough to help Brazil beat France in the quarter finals of the Women’s football at the ongoing Olympic Games on Saturday night.

It was the end o f Renard’s contract with the French Football Federation making him a free agent since Saturday evening as his contract was due to expire after the Olympic Games.

A couple of months ago, Nigeria and Egypt showed a huge interest in the formal Zambia and Ivory Coast’s head coach.

Nigeria was leading the race as they needed to replace Finidi George who resigned after just two competitive games in charge.

News emanating from Nigeria says that the in demand French tactician, Herve Renard, has decided to reduce his $180k per month salary to sign a two year contract with the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Herve Renard is not new to the African terrain as he has managed Zambia, Ivory Coast and Morocco. He won AFCON with the Chipolopolos and the Elephants of La Cote d’Ivoire and also took Morrocco to the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Nigeria is in need of revival after failing to win any of the four World Cup qualifiers played so far. It will definitely be one of the biggest achievements of Herve Renard on the continent if he’s able to send Nigeria to the 2026 FIFA World Cup set to be played in the USA-Mexico-Canada.
