A mobile money vendor in Torkoni/Blave, located in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta Region, has reportedly taken their own life due to financial debt.
The event that took place on Thursday, January 8, 2026, has left the community feeling shocked and distressed. The person who has passed away, whose identity is still unconfirmed, also sold products like toothpaste, sponges, and brushes at the main bus station in Hohoe. Sources indicate that the deceased was heard making phone calls earlier in the day.
The source indicated that the discussion implied someone was asking for money from the deceased. It is reported that the deceased mentioned he would pay the amount using MoMo or electronic cash. The information indicated that a few people later went to the deceased’s house, knocked on his door, and threatened to inform the police about him.
The deceased’s brother reportedly stated that his sibling’s mood shifted after receiving the calls, but he did not reveal the reason for this change.
The brother reportedly went to town and, when he came back, discovered that the door was locked. After multiple failed attempts to contact the deceased by phone, the door was forcibly opened, and the body was discovered.
Investigations are underway while the body is deposited at the morgue
