Fatawu Dauda, 39, joined Ashgold from Okwawu United in way back 2006. He was considered a very talented goalkeeper as he went ahead to justify the hype.

He played for Orlando Pirates, Chippa United, Enyimba, Legon Cities and Asante Kotoko showcasing his class. He was Ghana’s number one goalkeeper in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

In an interview with Joysports, former Black Stars and Ashanti Gold goalkeeper Fatawu Dauda has disclosed how he financially benifited joining Ashanti Gold SC from Okwawu United.

“The first house I built is from AshGold [Money]”

“My mother was having a land . I used the signing on fee i got from Okwawu United to Ash Gold to build my first house. Myself and my little brothers were benifiting from my Ashgold deal.

“If you were discipline, the money that you were getting from the Premier League, you could have used it for something good, trust me”.

The financial state of the Ghana Premier League in 2024 can never be compared to that of even in 2006. It is a very scary moment for Ghanaian football as the league has no headline and broadcasting rights making things so terrible.

The clubs have been struggling to satisfy the financial needs of their players leading to an unprecedented mass exodus at the end of every season.

Who would believe that those who played in the Ghana Premier League nearly 20 years ago benifited financially than those currently playing.
