Kofi Akpaloo, the founder and leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana, has issued an apology for his irresponsible comments on the helicopter crash near Obuasi, where eight lives were lost.
Akpaloo’s comments on the crash
“You saw where the helicopter crash occurred? A cocoa farm. God used the cràsh as a reminder, Don’t lie to cocoa farmers,” – Kofi Akpaloo said.
Ghanaians instantly criticised him for the unacceptable comments, with many describing him as ‘irresponsible’
On Friday on Asempa FM, the veteran politician accepted his mistake and begged for forgiveness from Ghanaians.
“I am not happy at all, and I feel terrible that my comments caused pain to many people and families.
“I am sincerely sorry and ask for their forgiveness.
“My words came from frustration over the many lives lost daily in Ghana, especially in road accidents”, he added.
The helicopter crash killed eight Ghanaians, including Defence Minister Omane Boamah, former Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Samuel Sarpong and six other dignitaries.
