Ghana was divided during and after the 2025 AFCON qualifiers where the Black Stars failed to record a single victory against Niger, Angola and Sudan.
Ghana shockingly finished bottom of the group in the qualifiers. This led many Ghanaians to demand that Otto Addo be sacked, even though he had few who were in support of his stay.
Former Black Stars coach CK Akonnor has disclosed that he was one of the few Ghanaians who were not in support of the idea of sacking Otto Addo when things were so difficult for him.
“I didn’t encourage the sacking of Otto Addo after the AFCON qualification failure, it sometimes gets too much for the players with the hiring & sacking of coaches. Otto Addo went through some difficult moments, but clearly you can see that he is now very calm, his body language has changed,” CK said in an interview with Citi Sports.
It looks clear that Otto Addo has been able to recover from the major setback he encountered during the 2025 AFCON qualifiers. Ghana is three points ahead of Comoros after 6 rounds of games. The Black Stars are in pole position to win the group, and it will be a huge achievement for Otto Addo as he will become the first coach to qualify Ghana for two FIFA World Cups.
