The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram and current Minister for Communication and digitalization, Samuel Nartey George, has once again stirred political debate after launching a strong response to critics, particularly members and sympathizers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who accuse him of arrogance and confrontational politics.
In a sharply worded Facebook post, the outspoken lawmaker dismissed the backlash against his posture, insisting that his political journey has been defined by resilience, loyalty, and consistent advocacy for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
His comments come at a time when old videos of his opposition-era critiques are being circulated online, with critics suggesting a contrast between his past rhetoric and his current position in government.
Sam George’s political rise has been closely tied to the NDC’s modern communications machinery. Before entering Parliament, he gained prominence as a communications specialist and a key member of the party’s digital campaign team.
He played a visible role during the heated political climate leading up to the 2016 general elections, which saw the NDC, then led by John Dramani Mahama, suffer a significant defeat to the NPP.
Following that loss, the NDC found itself with only 106 parliamentary seats against the NPP’s overwhelming majority of 169. It was during this period, Sam George recalled, that he emerged as one of the most vocal defenders of the party.
He maintained a constant media presence, appearing frequently on television and radio, sometimes multiple times a day, to challenge government policies and keep the NDC relevant in national discourse.
“I was on the floor of Parliament as part of a paltry 106… I made sure my voice was heard,” he wrote, reflecting on what he describes as a defining period of political struggle and rebuilding for the opposition party.
Elected as MP for Ningo-Prampram in 2016, Sam George quickly established himself as one of the most outspoken figures in Parliament. His tenure has been marked by strong positions on governance, digital policy, and national security issues, often putting him at the center of political controversy.
His critics, particularly within the NPP, have frequently labelled him as combative and arrogant, while his supporters view him as bold and unapologetic.
In his latest response, he rejected attempts to use past statements against him, arguing that such efforts only highlight his dedication to the NDC’s return to power.
According to him, the circulation of archival footage serves as a testament to the role he played in rebuilding the party after its 2016 defeat.
“I have paid my dues,” he stated, adding that every resurfaced video reflects his contribution to the NDC’s resurgence and eventual electoral victory. He pointed to the party’s current dominance in Parliament—now holding nearly 190 seats—as evidence of the success of that collective effort.
Sam George also took a swipe at his detractors, challenging them to reflect on their own contributions to political discourse.
“Ask yourself, what have you stood for or achieved?” he wrote, in a tone that underscores his long-standing reputation for direct and often provocative communication.
His remarks also referenced his unwavering support for John Mahama’s political comeback, describing his efforts as part of a broader mission to restore the NDC to power.
The return of Mahama and the party’s renewed parliamentary strength, he implied, validates the sacrifices made by loyalists during the years in opposition.
Despite stating that he has now chosen a more measured approach, Sam George warned that his restraint should not be mistaken for weakness.
He described himself as a “tough seed,” suggesting that criticism and political attacks are not new to him and have only strengthened his resolve over time.
