Kwame Baffoe Abronye, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has publicly disassociated himself from a recent publication circulating on social media, which falsely attributed statements to him calling for former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to be invited by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

In a statement issued on Friday, Abronye clarified that he has no knowledge of the publication and categorically denied granting any interview to Asempa FM—or any other media outlet—where such comments could have been made.

He emphasized that the media house, known for its integrity and verifiable records, can independently confirm that he has neither appeared in person nor provided any interview throughout 2025.

The NPP regional leader described the publication as a “deliberate and calculated attempt” to create divisions within the party, particularly between himself and the former President, whom he said he deeply admires and regards as one of the most competent leaders in recent times.

Abronye reiterated his firm belief that Akufo-Addo engaged in no illegal acts warranting an EOCO investigation and denied ever suggesting otherwise.

According to him, the report, which appeared on the Opera News platform, lacks credibility and is emblematic of the rise of politically motivated misinformation targeting prominent figures within the NPP.

He highlighted that such tactics have previously been employed by supporters of outspoken former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, with similar false statements once attributed to Abronye concerning former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

The Bono Regional Chairman further rejected the suggestion that the alleged comments were linked to efforts to drive a wedge between former President Akufo-Addo and former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who he strongly supports as the NPP’s 2028 presidential flagbearer.

Abronye concluded by urging Ghanaians, party faithful, and the general public to treat the publication with “the utmost contempt it deserves,” reiterating his loyalty to both the party and its senior leadership.
