Ghanaian gospel musician Mavis Asante has shared what she says is her secret to a peaceful and lasting marriage.
In an interview with Accra-based Kessben FM, Mavis Asante, who has been married for 13 years revealed that she does not touch her husband’s phone.
This, according to her, is for her own peace of mind and is part of what has led to longevity in her marriage.
“One thing that has helped me in my marriage is that I never pick up my husband’s phone. Even if someone is calling, I won’t pick up. That is a principle I have had since, if not for anything, just to have my peace of mind,” she said.
Mavis Asante also shared her commitment to avoiding divorce, inspired by her parents’ enduring marriage.
She said that growing up with both parents, she witnessed the benefits of a stable home and decided to remove the word ‘divorce’ from her vocabulary.
“When I was going into the marriage, I kept it in mind that I wouldn’t go through a divorce. I was fortunate to grow up with both of my parents and I saw how it benefitted me. I know people who grew up in broken homes and the struggles they went through.
“So when I saw that my parents maintained their marriage through the ups and downs. I was inspired. I removed the word divorce from my marriage. I don’t want it anywhere around me,” she shared.
