Joe Tagoe could not hide it anymore after being rumoured that the mercurial former Accra Great Olympics and Hearts of Oak’s right winger was older than his age.
The winger spent three years with Phobia after moving from arch-rivals Accra Great Olympics in the early 2000s. He later joined a Divison 2 side in Egypt after enjoying a great moment in the Ghanaian Premier League
“I was 35 years but poverty made me reduce my age to 19 so I could play for a Division 2 team in Egypt. I was always dying my grey hair with yomo”, Joe Tagoe hilariously said.
Age cheating has been a huge issue in Sub-Saharan Africa, with countries like Cameroon, Nigeria and Ghana being the biggest culprits.
Players have been very afraid to speak out on issues concerning age cheating but it is so clear it is part of the system.
Joe Tagoe was a talented footballer who, due to his diminutive nature, fans failed to predict his age.
