Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovations, has publicly fired back at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after the party initiated proceedings to expel him over his recent criticisms of its leadership and internal processes.

The outspoken surgeon and politician made clear that he will not step down from the party voluntarily, dismissing the expulsion move as misguided and insisting that the “fake” elements within the party are the ones who should leave.

The controversy escalated after Prof. Frimpong-Boateng described the NPP as a “fake party” in an interview on The Point of View on Channel One TV, hosted by Bernard Avle, on January 12, 2026.

He alleged that the party’s 2023 presidential primary, which produced former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as flagbearer, was manipulated, with delegates bribed and intimidated to ensure a predetermined outcome.

Frimpong-Boateng argued that such practices, including the abuse of power and corruption, contributed to the party’s defeat in the 2024 elections and continue to threaten its future viability.
In a follow-up interview with Asempa FM on January 13, Prof Frimpong-Boateng doubled down on his remarks, asserting that he remains a committed member of the party, but refuses to associate with its current leadership.

“No, I’m not leaving the party. They should leave the party. They are the fake ones; they should go away, and the true party will stand,” he stated emphatically.

He added that the NPP, in its current form, has been destroyed from within, and called for a complete reset to restore the party to the principles upon which it was founded.

Frimpong-Boateng also made it clear that he will not comply with invitations to appear before the party’s National Executive Committee or Disciplinary Committee, dismissing such engagements as a waste of time.

“I will not go there. Because of who is there? I will not go there at all, waste my time,” he said.

The NPP responded swiftly to his statements. In a formal statement, General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong condemned Frimpong-Boateng’s comments as “highly reprehensible” and inconsistent with the party’s values, unity, and integrity.

The party rejected the allegation that the 2023 primary was rigged and defended its internal processes as transparent and credible.
