Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has been ruled out for the rest of the season for nearly four months after suffering a knee injury in the November 2024 international break.
Welsh tactician Steve Cooper was the manager for Leicester City when the 21-year-old left-footed Ghanaian forward got injured.
Former Manchester United striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy is now the manager of Leicester City after the club sacked Cooper.
The Ghanaian is yet to play under the Dutch manager and has expressed his desire to play for the father-like figure Van Nistelrooy.
”Ruud has been like a father to me. I’d be so happy to get the chance to play for him. He has shown so much interest in helping me as an injured player, Issahaku said.
‘He tells me his injury was the time that made him who he is today. He became even stronger and said that could happen to me too. I just need to focus,” the youngster revealed.
Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s deal to Manchester United was agreed in the summer of 2000, but because of injury problems, the move was secured a year later for a then British record fee of £19 million. The Leicester City manager after recovering from the career-threatening injury hit the ground running and scored 150 goals in 5 years for Manchester United where he won 4 titles including a Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and Community Shield titles.
”I’d be so happy to get the chance to play for him. He has shown so much interest in helping me as an injured; I imagine what it would be like if you could help the team. I can’t wait for him to develop me as a footballer,” Issahaku concluded in an interview with Daily Mail.
Fatawu Issahaku’s absence has left a huge gap in Leicester City’s attack. The Ghanaian forward played a crucial role in the team’s fight for promotion last season and was expected to at least repeat the same heroics to help them remain in the league.
