South Korea secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Ghana in an international friendly played at the Seoul World Cup Stadium on Tuesday.
The only goal arrived early in the second half when defender Lee Tae-seok rose to meet a set-piece and headed home in the 63rd minute, sending the home crowd into celebration and ultimately deciding the match.
The first half had been cagey, with both teams probing but failing to find a clear way through; South Korea grew into the game after the break and managed the contest while Ghana searched for a response.
Ghana’s goalkeeper Benjamin Asare produced several important saves to keep the score line respectable, and Ghana pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages but could not find the finishing touch.
South Korea had a penalty chance later in the match when Hwang Hee-chan was awarded a spot-kick, but Asare kept Ghana in the game by saving the penalty, preserving the one-goal margin and adding drama to the final quarter-hour.
Both sides used the fixture to test combinations and give opportunities to emerging players ahead of their respective competitive schedules.
For South Korea, the win wrapped up a busy year of friendlies on a positive note, while Ghana took away valuable lessons about chance creation and defensive concentration at the international level.
The tight score line underlined how evenly matched the teams were on the night and highlighted the potential of several younger players who featured for their national sides.
Both teams will resume preparations ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in March 2026, the first international break of the year.
