It takes a miracle for a professional footballer to get a national call-up at age 32. Benjamin Asare’s invitation to the Black Stars came as a huge surprise because nobody thought the experienced goalkeeper was one day going to be called up to the Black Stars and also start.
Benjamin Asare benched Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Joe Wollacot to the surprise of football fans in Ghana. He kept clean sheets in the games against Chad and Madagascar.
In an interview on Peace FM, Hearts Of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare thanked God and Ghanaians for the lifetime opportunity.
“What I will say is with the Black Stars, although it is by the grace of God that I got a call-up. What I will say is that, first of all, I will say thank you to the supporters and management and most of the Ghana members, players, and the authorities,” Asare said.
Otto Addo has confirmed that Benjamin Asare is the current number one goalkeeper for Ghana making Asare’s story an interesting one.
The Black Stars will return to action in June in London in a four-nation tournament, with Asare expected to be part of the trip.
