Three Serie A games scheduled to be played on Easter Monday have been postponed following the passing of Pope Francis.

The final three games for week 32 of the Italian topflight were due to be honoured on Monday, but authorities at 9:33 am announced that the games would no longer be played.

Torino was due to host Udinese, Cagliari was welcoming Fiorentina, Lazio was travelling to Genoa, and Parma was hosting Juventus. The games are postponed with dates to be confirmed later.

On Monday morning, the Vatican announced the death of Pope Francis (88). Born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Buenos Aires, the Capital of Argentina, the Argentine was in 2013 replaced Pope Benedict XVI as the head of the Catholic Church and Sovereign of the Vatican City State.

Following five weeks of treatment for double pneumonia alongside a complex respiratory infection, Pope Francis did not survive and peacefully died at his residence in the Vatican’s Casa Santa Marta.
