Hourly payment is not practised in Ghana, but rather monthly payment. The situation makes Ghanaian workers always be in a financial mess because they have to wait for at least 25 or 26 days for their salaries.
Fair Wages Commission of Ghana boss, Dr Smith-Graham, has suggested that the government is considering introducing an hourly payment to all workers. The idea was mooted when a visit by Parliament’s Select Committee on Employment and Labour to the FWSC, NPRA, and the MDPI was made to his office.
“It’s time to start paying Ghanaian workers in hours”, Smith-Graham said
“This is not just about money. It’s about fairness… about giving workers the dignity of knowing exactly how their wages are calculated.”
Fairness is what Ghanaian workers have been calling for, and the Fair Wages Commission boss thinks the decision to introduce hourly payment will go a long way to ensure fairness.
“We need to seriously consider raising the retirement age from 60 to 65… to ensure the fund remains stable for future generations,” Chris Boadi-Mensah, NPRA CEO, also suggested.
The retirement age of 60 is been considered to be extended to 65. Many believe that most of the pensioners at 60 are still strong and could contribute a lot, and hence, the age ought to be extended.
