An Automotive industry marked a significant milestone over the weekend, when J.A. Plant Pool Ghana Ltd., a subsidiary of the Jospong Group of Companies, officially unveiled the Soueast range of Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) at its Dzorwulu premises in Accra.
The event, attended by captains of industry, government officials, and stakeholders in the transport sector, was hailed as a bold step into the consumer vehicle market by a company long known for heavy-duty equipment and buses.

The launch also coincided with the commencement of the “Soueast Experience Week,” an initiative offering customers the chance to test, explore, and finance the new lineup.
Representing the Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, in his speech described the launch as a strategic move that would not only bring diversity to the vehicle market but also contribute to national economic growth, skills development, and employment.
“Launching a new vehicle line is not just a business decision; it is an investment in people, in infrastructure, and in national growth,” the Minister’s representative noted, highlighting the ripple effects for technicians, mechanics, parts dealers, and service providers.
Four Models for Diverse Needs
The new Soueast lineup features four models tailored for different market segments:
Soueast 506 – A compact, agile SUV ideal for urban commuting.
Soueast S06DM (Hybrid) – A dual-mode gasoline-electric hybrid for eco-conscious drivers.
Soueast S07 – A spacious family SUV designed for comfort and long-distance travel.
Soueast S09 – A premium SUV blending luxury with performance.
According to J.A. Plant Pool’s Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Alex Atakorah, the launch responds directly to changing customer preferences in the transport market, where affordability, fuel efficiency, and environmental sustainability are becoming key buying factors.
Aligning with National And Global Commitments
Ghana has committed to international agreements such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, which require a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
The Minister emphasized that introducing more fuel-efficient and low-emission vehicles aligns with these commitments.
“We are duty-bound to reduce our national emissions, especially from the transport sector,” the representative said. “The introduction of Soueast SUVs will help in that regard, and government will continue to provide an enabling environment for such initiatives.”
Road Safety Reminder
While celebrating the milestone, transport officials also addressed the road safety challenges.
Road crashes remain a major concern, with studies indicating that more than 80% are due to human error.
The public was reminded to avoid speeding, drink-driving, fatigue driving, wrongful overtaking, and red-light violations.
Two Decades in Transport Leadership
Founded nearly 20 years ago, J.A. Plant Pool has built a strong reputation for providing dependable heavy-duty machinery, construction equipment, and transport solutions to multiple sectors.
This move into consumer SUVs marks a new chapter in the company’s history — one aimed at serving Ghana’s growing middle class and professional market.
Business strategist James J. Annan summed up the company’s vision:
The Soueast Experience Week runs until August ending, giving the public an opportunity to test-drive the models, interact with technical experts, and explore financing options.
