Former Arsenal and Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor has fired Jamie Carragher for disrespecting Africa.

The ex-Togolese striker did not take it cool when he was asked to express his view on Jamie Carragher’s comments that AFCON is not a major tournament.

“These comments are total disrespect not only to AFCON but also to all Africans,” Adebayor said in an interview with AfricaSoccer.

Many Africans believe it is an attack on the entire continent because, in a discussion about Salah’s chances of winning the 2025 Balon d’Or, Carragher should have never switched his attention to belittle the competition.

“It’s always the same when AFCON comes around; clubs hesitate to release players, and critics try to downplay its importance,” Adebayor revealed.

It is no secret that it has been happening since the early 2000s when many African players started playing for many European clubs. The clubs always hesitate to release players as some convince players to even fake injuries and subsequently reject call-ups.

“I played against world-class defenders in the Premier League, and Carragher is not one of them,” Emmanuel Adebayor concluded.

Adebayor became a top striker when he moved from Monaco to Arsenal in 2006 and left for Manchester City in 2009. He played for Real Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace among other spells in Europe and South America. The Togolese competed against high-class defenders but never saw Carragher of Liverpool as a threat.
