Jordan Ayew (33) is ready to accept the role of captaincy for the Black Stars after a thorough discussion by the stakeholders of the senior national team.

Andrew Ayew, the immediate elder brother of Jordan, sons of the legendary Abedi Pele, has led the team as the main captain since May 2020 after Asamoah Gyan started enjoying a bit part role. Dede Ayew has not been playing regularly for the Black Stars so Thomas Partey was made the interim captain by Otto Addo.

Mohammed Kudus during the 2025 AFCON qualifiers at some point captained the Black Stars leading to a huge misunderstanding in the playing body and among the fans of the senior national team. Many felt that Jordan Ayew was the right choice because he has been with the team since 2010.

Report circulating in the various tabloids across Ghana say that Otto Addo has decided to make Jordan Ayew the main captain for the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Fernabahce’s center back Alexander Djiku will be named as the deputy after Thomas Partey rejected the deputy captaincy role.

Jordan Ayew will be third of the Ayew’s to be named permanent captain of Ghana after his father, Abedi Ayew Pele and brother, Andre Dede Ayew have all skippered the Black Stars.

Ghana will host Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium and travel to Morocco to face Madagascar in round 5 and 6 of the World Cup qualifiers respectively.
