Mourinho did not become unemployed for even one week after being sacked as the manager of the Turkish giants Fenerbahce.

The club sacked him after they were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League playoff against Portuguese side Benfica.

The former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss has been appointed as the new manager of Benfica after Bruno Lage was sacked on Tuesday evening, after surprisingly losing to the minnows Qarabaq in Lisbon in the opening night of the 2025-26 UCL season.

The Portuguese veteran manager told the press that he is back to where he belongs because he was trained to coach the biggest clubs.

“Coaching Benfica is returning to my level, and my level is coaching the biggest clubs in the world”, Jose said.

The two-time winners of the UCL continued, “I made a mistake going to Fenerbahçe. I gave my all until the last day, obviously.”

Mourinho’s revelation is quite surprising because things looked so rosy between him and the club until he was sacked.

Jose Mourinho returned to Portugal after leaving in 2004 to manage Chelsea after winning the UEFA Champions League with FC Porto.
