Moving from European Category B league to Major League Soccer in the USA was considered a step back in your career especially when you’re approaching your peak years.

MLS was once home to retiring footballers such as Thiery Henry, David Beckham, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard, Raul Gonzalez, and Steven Gerrard among many superstars as they had stints at the twilights of their careers in the league.

LA Galaxy’s Ghanaian forward Joseph Paintsil has debunked the mentality that the league is a place for retirement.

Speaking to JoySports, the 26-year-old said, “It’s not as easy as people think. People say it is a retirement league, but trust me, many Europeans can go there and flop in the first season.

Once European football superstars who made huge names for themselves have been enjoying the league with players like Messi, Busquets, Iniesta, Suarez, Benteke, Shaqiri and many other stars are currently in the MLS.

“You have the likes of Messi, you have the likes of Busquets, a whole lot of players. Giroud, Marco Reus, Riqui Puig. There are a lot of great players there so it is interesting now to play in the MLS,” Paintsil said.

The MLS is no longer the weak league we used to know. Huge investments have been made helping the league to be able to attract 8-time Balon d’Or winner, Lionel Messi.
