Black Queens started 2025 with a defeat in a friendly game against Morocco on Friday in Casablanca. It was Swedish head coach Kim Lars’ first game since being appointed as the replacement of Nora Huptle, who left for the Copper Queens of Zambia.

In preparations ahead of the 2024 WAFCON to be played in Morocco in July 2025, Ghana began preparations with a trip to North Africa to assess the state of the team.

Sakina Ouzaroui Diki of Costa Adeje Tenerife in Spain scored in the 89th minute to condemn Black Queens to a narrow 1-0 defeat.

After the game, Kim Lars said, “I’m really proud of the girls. They worked hard. There haven’t been so many trainings together. The focus has been to work as a group and be well-organised in defence. They did an amazing job. I’m happy with the girls”.

Morocco is now a superpower in the women’s game in Africa, so playing against them ahead of the July tournament is a step in the right direction.

Ghana is in Group C alongside South Africa, Tanzania and Mali for the 2024 WAFCON.
