Mohammed Kudus is slowly crawling back to his 2023-24 self after a disastrous start to the 2024-25 season.
The 24-year-old Ghanaian forward was a hit in his first season in the English top flight but has failed to replicate the feat in his sophomore season.
Even though Kudus has not been banging in the goals as expected, there is an aspect of his game that you can see a huge improvement in since signing from Ajax in 2023 summer.
On Wednesday ahead of the club’s Boxing Day fixture at the lowly Southampton, West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui praised Mohammed Kudus in his pre-match conference for his defensive work rate.
“I’m not only happy with his goals; I’m happy with his commitment,” the Spaniard said.
The Hammers fans have been praising Kudus for his commitment at this difficult moment, even though he has just scored three goals and provided one assist in 12 league games.
“He’s improving a lot in his defensive commitment. The only way to achieve the level that he can achieve is to be focused on the hard work for the team,” Lopetegui added.
Kudus has been seen running down the wings in a bid to support his team defensively.
Things have been extremely difficult for West Ham United in the current campaign as they sit 14th on the league log with eight points above the relegation zone.
