As part of preparations towards the 2024-25 GPL season, the Ghana Football Association on Tuesday organized a one day workshop for all the Match Commisioners for the season.

The meeting took place at the GA headquarters in Ridge, Access on Tuesday morning.

In attendance for the meeting were; the president of Ghana Football Associatuon, Kurt Okraku. Retired referee Thomas Nunoo also led discussions on rules, regulations, clarifications, and recent amendments to the Laws of the game.

The CAF Match Commissioner and Deputy General Secretary in charge of National Teams, Alex Asante, also shared insights regarding the fundamental responsibilities of match commissioners, such as the match day countdown procedures, and the standards of match oversight.

Addressing the commisioners, GFA president, Kurt Okraku said, “Our collective vision should be driven through hard work. You have to stick with it and do whatever it takes to play football as well as you can.”

“I’m grateful for the trust you have in me. It will never be disrespected. We are all committed to the vision of developing Ghana Football,” Kurt added.

As part of their roles, match commisioners liase, with the team representatives, referees and medical officers.

They also ensure that the competition’s equipment is provided in a fit and ready state for the commencement of each fixture, including team bench seating, working scoreboards and inflated match balls among many other roles.

A number of important topics were addressed during the workshop, such as modifications to the Rules of the Game, honesty, the Competition Management System (CMS), report writing, the function of the contemporary Match Commissioner, and how to run productive Technical Meetings.

The head of the department of information technology, Francis Essah Adu, trained participants on how to use the CMS efficiently.

Ghana Premier League will commence this weekend.
