The Kwahu Traditional Council in the Eastern Region has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Defence Minister, and other state officials in a helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.
Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, Kwahumanhene and President of the Kwahu Traditional Council, described the news as harrowing and cast a dark cloud over the nation.
A True Son of Kwahu
Dr. Omane Boamah was remembered as a true son of Kwahu who served with dedication, eloquence, and a firm sense of purpose.
He had a personal relationship with the Kwahuhene and was known for his intellect and commitment to national development.
His sudden departure is a grievous blow not only to his family but to the entire Republic.
Condolences
On behalf of Nananom and Kwahuman, the Kwahuhene extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and to the Government and people of Ghana.
He prayed that the Almighty grant their souls peaceful rest and comfort all who mourn.
The Pope John Old Boys Association (POJOBA) also mourned the loss of Dr. Omane Boamah, describing him as a proud and devoted alumnus who epitomized the school’s motto, “Vela Damus” – We Set Sail.
The Tragic Incident
The helicopter crash occurred on August 6, 2025, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, claiming the lives of eight individuals, including Dr. Omane Boamah, Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and several other top government officials.
The victims were traveling to Obuasi to launch the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) when the incident occurred.
Tributes
Tributes have poured in from across the country, with many remembering Dr. Omane Boamah as a patriot, visionary, and beloved brother.
The United Nations in Ghana issued a statement of condolences to the nation and families of the government officials who lost their lives in the crash.
