The late Ghanaian highlife icon, Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has taken legal action to halt funeral arrangements announced without their approval.
Led by Lumba’s first and legally recognised wife, Mrs Akosua Serwah Fosuh, and their children, the family claims they were excluded from the planning process.
In a press release dated Thursday, 9th October 2025, Mrs Fosuh expressed deep distress over learning of the funeral plans via social media, describing the announcement as both shocking and disrespectful.
The family alleges that Abusuapanyin Kofi Wusu, the head of Lumba’s family, and a self-appointed funeral committee leader, unilaterally scheduled the funeral for 6th December 2025, without consulting Lumba’s closest relatives.
They condemned the move as inconsiderate, especially toward Mrs Fosuh, who is still grieving and preparing to travel to Ghana for her husband’s final rites.
Since Daddy Lumba’s passing on 26th July 2025 in Accra, the family says there has been a deliberate attempt to sideline his legal wife from funeral discussions. They also disclosed that the cause of death is still under investigation.
To clarify the legal context, the family reminded the public that Daddy Lumba was officially married to Mrs Fosuh on 23rd December 2004 in Bornheim, Germany.
Under German law, bigamy is strictly forbidden. Quoting Section 1306 of the German Civil Code (Bürgerliches Gesetzbuch), they emphasised: “A marriage may not be entered into if one of the persons is already married,” rendering any subsequent marriage legally invalid.
In light of these developments, the family has filed an injunction to suspend all funeral and burial activities until proper consultations and consensus are reached.
“To all fans and admirers of Daddy Lumba, we are grateful for your unwavering love and support during this painful period,” the statement concluded. “We respectfully urge you to disregard any unofficial funeral announcements.”
The family assured the public that a fitting and honourable farewell will be organised in due time—one that truly reflects the legacy and musical brilliance of Daddy Lumba.
