President John Dramani Mahama has handed over forty newly acquired armoured vehicles to the Ghana Police Service as part of the government’s efforts to strengthen internal security and enhance the operational readiness of the security services.

The fleet includes twenty-five fully armoured units and fifteen light armoured vehicles—comprising five Cobra-4s, twenty Cobra-3s, and fifteen TLC-79 pickups—designed for rapid response and high-risk tactical operations across the country. The vehicles are expected to provide officers with stronger protection, improved mobility, and greater capability to counter violent crime and complex security threats.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Mahama said the investment forms part of a broader national strategy to retool the security services, safeguard lives and property, and ensure officers are adequately protected while performing their duties. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to equipping the Police Service and other security agencies to effectively deliver on their constitutional mandate.

The President commended Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and the entire Police Service for their achievements in crime-fighting and urged them to intensify efforts to maintain the nation’s peace and security.

IGP Yohuno, in response, expressed deep appreciation to the President, assuring that the armoured vehicles would be deployed effectively and maintained diligently to support sustained crime prevention and control efforts.

The handing-over ceremony concluded with a Show of Force exercise led by the IGP, involving members of the Police Management Board and officers from the Operations Department. The display forms part of heightened security preparations ahead of the Christmas festivities.
