Ruud Van Nistelrooy was loved by every Manchester United fan during his playing days. The former Dutch forward secured a dream move in a club record deal to the English giants in 2001 in a deal worth £18.5 million from PSV Eindhoven.

He played 150 games for Mancheater United and scored 95 goals. He also played for Den Bosch, Heerenven, PSV Eindhoven, Real Madrid, Hamburg SV and Malaga. Manchester United is his home because it remains the club he has played and scored more goals for in his career.

In the 2024 summer, Erik Ten Hag added Van Nistelrooy to his coaching staff. Many believe he has the talent to manage Manchester United after twice been the assistant manager of Netherlands.

In club football, Van Nisterooy resigned as PSV manager in 2022-23 season citing a lack of support from within the club, and also worked there as a youth coach.

The former Red Devils hitman has been earmarked by the club as a possible replacement for the under pressure Ten Hag who has been given two games to save his job.

Manchester United believe they are well-prepared to make a change of manager if results and performances do not improve.

Promoting Ruud van Nistelrooy – at least in the short-term – is considered a viable option if a change becomes necessary.

The Red Devils travel to Portugal to face FC Porto in the Europa League in midweek and visit Villa Park to face the in-form Aston Villa on Sunday. These games are a make or break fixtures for Dutch manager, Erik Ten Hag.
