The Red Devils’ disastrous years seem unending. Manchester United sacked the Portuguese head coach Ruben Amorim after the 1-1 draw at Elland Road against Leeds.

The club immediately appointed former midfielder Darren Fletcher as the interim head coach. Fletcher drew 2-2 at Burnley in the Premier League and lost 2-1 at Old Trafford against Brighton & Hove to end his reign as expected.

In the search for a new boss until the end of the season, the club have finally decided to pick Michael Carrick, the former midfielder who once occupied the role of an interim boss, as the man to lead the club until the end of the season.

It was a straight fight between club legends Ole Gunnar Solskjær and Michael Carrick for the vacant role, but after an interview with the board, the club decided to pick Carrick over the experienced Ole, who had been the manager of the club between 2018 and 2021.

The club will announce Carrick’s appointment by Wednesday. Michael Carrick was part of Ole’s backroom staff before being appointed as the permanent manager of Championship side Middlesbrough between 2022 and 2025.

The club sacked Carrick in June 2025 after finishing 10th in the 2024-25 season in the Championship. His appointment will divide the fans’ opinion, with many wishing for Ole’s return because of his experience.
