A 21-year-old unemployed man named Rashid Cidi has stabbed a senior police officer who intervened to prevent him from selling drugs and disturbing residents at McCarthy Hill in Accra.

Reports indicate that Cidi, recognised in the area for his suspected involvement with illegal drugs, was fully aware that the victim, ASP Samuel Assifuah Boah, was a police officer.

On July 7, 2025, Cidi tried to attack ASP Asafuah, but the officer fired a shot from his service pistol, prompting Cidi to escape.

The next morning, while the police officer was taking his children to school, Cidi reportedly attacked him with a jackknife.

ASP Asafuah again issued warnings to discourage him, but Cidi was able to gain the upper hand.

Cidi reportedly stabbed the officer several times in the back, resulting in serious injuries for the senior officer.

Cidi was arrested and received a sentence of four years in prison.
