Saturday was a very bad day for West Ham fans and football-loving fans across England in toto after hearing West Ham United’s versatile forward Michail Antonio was involved in a career-ending accident with his Ferrari.

The Hammers confirmed in a statement on Saturday:

“West Ham United can confirm Michail Antonio has undergone surgery on a lower limb fracture following a road traffic accident on Saturday afternoon (7 December 2024).

Michail will continue to be monitored in hospital over the coming days.

Everyone at the Club wishes Michail a speedy recovery and wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the football family at large for the overwhelming support shown since yesterday’s news, as well as extending a heartfelt thank you to the emergency services and first responders who attended to Michail in the immediate aftermath of the incident, and the medical team who continue to aid him in his recovery.

The Club will provide further updates when appropriate”.

talkpSort UK’s Simon Jordan disclosed the latest news from Michail Antonio’s camp on Monday and it was not tasteful.

‘I’m told this morning he remains in a stable condition in hospital, receiving the full support of the NHS and the West Ham medical staff,’ he told talkSPORT.

‘Now he has sustained serious damage to one of his legs and it’s thought is going to be a long haul recovery, and it will be at least 12 months before it’s known whether or not he’ll play football again.

‘I was told this morning Michail is a fighter. He’s in a very strong physical condition because he is a top-class footballer, and that may help him and come as a bit of an advantage when it comes to his recovery.’

 

West Ham players to show Antonio LOVE ahead of Monday night clash against Wolves

“West Ham United’s players will show their support for teammate Michail Antonio at London Stadium on Monday evening, following his road traffic accident on Saturday.

The Hammers striker underwent surgery on a lower limb fracture on Sunday and is currently recovering in hospital. He remains in everyone’s thoughts as he continues his rehabilitation.

Everyone at the Club would like to reiterate their heartfelt thanks to the first responders, emergency services, air ambulance staff and the NHS for the incredible support given to Michail in the wake of the accident.

Ahead of Monday’s Premier League fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers, which kicks off at 8 pm, the players will warm up in special ‘Antonio 9’ shirts, as well as walk out in tops adorning the striker’s name.

The Club will auction off the walk-out tops, with each one signed by every member of the squad, including Michail. In addition, every match-worn shirt from the Wolves fixture will also be auctioned, each signed by their respective squad member.

All proceeds raised from the auction will be split between the NHS and Air Ambulances UK Charity, the national charity supporting the lifesaving work of the UK’s Air Ambulance charities. All proceeds will also be matched by the Club’s Board”, the club announced.

West Ham United’s crisis could not get worse after the devastating news of Antonio’s accident. At the London Stadium on Monday night, the Hammers return to action in a must-win game for manager Julen Lopetegui, who has been under immense pressure following a series of defeats and unwanted results.
