It was a night that Ghanaian forwards showed their worth, with Joseph Paintsil scoring a brace for Los Angeles Galaxy while Yaw Yeboah also bagged a brace for Minnesota in their 6-2 thrashing.
The quarter-final fixture had promised to be an exciting one at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson on Sunday night, it was a make or break fixture for both teams as semi-finals berth was at stake.
Gabriel Pec’s early first minute strike for LA Galaxy was cancelled by Yaw Yeboah’s 6th minute equaliser. Former Dortmund skipper, Marco Reus assisted Joveljic to restore LA Galaxy’s lead in the 18th minute.
Joseph Paintsil added the third with 38 minutes played before Yaw Yeboah scored on the stroke of first half from the penalty spot to make it 3-2.
Pec, Joveljic and Paintsil repeated their first half tricks by all scoring again to condemn Minnesota to an embarrasing defeat.
Following the brace by Joseph Paintsil, the Ghanaian forward urged LA Galaxy fans to rally behind the team because they are almost there.
“I urge everybody to keep coming because we have this in our hands and we don’t have to lose this opportunity. We need to come together to fight for everything, even if we need to break our legs for this trophy, we have to do it. We will kill a lot of teams, and we have already started, and we’ll keep doing that no matter what,” Paintsil said.
LA Galaxy in the semi-finals will face Seattle Sounders at home with the winner progressing to the finals of the 2024 MLS season.
