Former Ghanaian international Mohammed Polo has advised Black Stars midfielder Mohammed Kudus to reconsider wearing the team’s iconic number 10 jersey unless he is spiritually prepared.

Polo’s warning comes after Ghana’s recent disappointing performances in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Kudus, who wore the number 10 shirt for the first time during the October international break and also captained the team, experienced a challenging period as Ghana drew 0-0 with Sudan and lost 2-0 to Libya.

These results have put Ghana at risk of missing the AFCON for the first time in over 20 years.

Polo, a legendary figure in Ghanaian football, referenced former Black Stars player Kwadwo Asamoah’s past comments about the spiritual significance of the number 10 jersey.

“We all remember what Kwadwo Asamoah once said about the number 10 shirt—the dreams and experiences he had with it.

If Kudus is not spiritually prepared, he should stop wearing it and return to his number 20,” Polo remarked during an interview on Connect 97.1 FM.

Despite the setbacks, Kudus has expressed optimism and apologized to fans, promising that the team will work hard to turn their fortunes around.
