Otto Addo was sacked after four successive international matches defeats against Japan, South Korea, Austria and Germany. Ghana is yet to record a single win since qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World.

The 5-1 maiming defeat against Austria truly angered Ghanaians. They expected a reaction against Germany in Stuttgart, but the Black Stars were beaten 2-1, unfortunately through Deniz Undav’s late strike.

A few hours after the heartbreaking defeat, the official GFA X account announced the sacking of Otto Addo.

Explaining things to Ghanaians concerning a new coach, the president of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku, was optimistic about hiring a winner for the team when announcing the number of applications received for the vacant role.

“We have received over 600 applications for Black Stars job,” Kurt said. His revelation is shocking, with many believing that he is exaggerating the numbers.

2014 World Cup-winning coach Joaquim Lowe has reportedly shown interest in the Black Stars’ vacant head coach role. Former Moroccan head coach Walid Regragui, who took the Atlas Lions to the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup, has also been linked with the role.

French tactician Harve Renard, who has won the AFCON twice with Zambia and the Ivory Coast, has also been linked to the position. Sudanese national team coach, James Kwasi Appiah, who has twice been named the head coach of the Black Stars, is also among the coaches the FA is monitoring.

Kurt Okraku has announced that Ghana will have a new head coach within the next two weeks.

The Black Stars will return to action in friendly games against Mexico and Wales in May, with the new coach getting the opportunity to meet his players for the first time.

Ghana is in Group L alongside England, Panama and Croatia for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
