The dust is yet to settle following the chaos that marred parliamentary rerun in Ablekuma North on July 11, 2025, as the spotlight now shifts to the Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak.

Accused of inaction, Muntaka is under intense pressure to deal decisively with suspected NDC-aligned thugs whose faces and actions have been boldly displayed across social media platforms.

Ghanaians have been left stunned by a series of videos and photographs that have surfaced online, showing some of the men involved in the violence—many wearing NDC-branded shirts—posing openly and in some cases granting media interviews.

These visuals, which have since gone viral, have provoked outrage and demands for accountability, particularly from opposition groups and civil society organizations.

The Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference has already called for the arrest of the perpetrators but the Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak claimed that the assailants had bolted.

“Mahama Promised Us” – Explosive Video Confession Raises Alarms

In one widely circulated video, an alleged participant is heard confidently stating, “Mahama has promised us,” suggesting a dangerous level of impunity rooted in perceived political backing.

Another individual claimed that their actions were not aimed at former Minister Hawa Koomson but were targeted at NPP stalwart Abronye DC and media personality Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah.

The footage has been widely interpreted as proof that the violence at Ablekuma North was not a spontaneous clash, but a carefully coordinated operation, potentially sanctioned by senior figures within the NDC.

With the Akwatia by-election looming the NDC goons may be unleashed on the opponents of the governing party.

Muntaka’s Vow of Justice Faces Public Skepticism

In the aftermath of the violence, Interior Minister Muntaka held a press conference assuring Ghanaians that justice would be served.

He said video evidence had been forwarded to the Inspector General of Police and directed that swift arrests be made.

“We will not allow political affiliation to be used as a shield,” Muntaka stated. “All perpetrators, regardless of party, will face the law.”

However, weeks since those assurances were made, no arrests have been confirmed with minister claiming that the perpetrators had left the country.

The silence from law enforcement has been deafening, especially given the overwhelming volume of visual evidence identifying some of the perpetrators.

Social Media Mobilizes Where Police Have Not

In the absence of swift state action, concerned citizens and opposition activists have taken it upon themselves to expose the alleged criminals.

NPP-affiliated social media users have created “digital wanted posters,” naming and shaming the suspects using clear images taken from the scene and their own social media pages.

One viral post challenged the Interior Minister directly: “Here they are, Honourable Muntaka. They’ve confessed. Their faces are public. What more do you need?”

Another widely shared message asked a pointed question: “If these were NPP thugs, would they still be free?”
