A domestic disagreement over a change in dinner plans has reportedly escalated into a stabbing incident at Maamaso, a community near New Abirem in the Birim North District of the Eastern Region.

According to local reports, 21-year-old Maafua allegedly stabbed her husband, 29-year-old Kofi, following a heated argument about the evening meal.

Kofi had given Maafua money earlier in the day, expecting to return home to a plate of banku and okro stew.

However, upon arrival, he was met with banku and light soup instead—a change that reportedly sparked his anger.

Maafua is said to have explained that the money provided was insufficient for preparing okro stew, prompting her to opt for a more affordable alternative.

She also claimed to have saved part of the money for future use. This explanation did not sit well with Kofi, who had looked forward to the original meal after a long day at work.

The disagreement quickly escalated into a physical confrontation.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that Kofi picked up a knife during the altercation, but Maafua managed to wrestle it from him and allegedly stabbed him in the process.

Kofi’s brother, Francis, who was in a nearby room, reportedly rushed to the scene upon hearing the commotion.

He found Kofi wounded and immediately transported him to the New Abirem Government Hospital.

Due to the severity of the injuries, Kofi was later transferred to the Koforidua Government Hospital for further treatment.

Police investigations are expected to follow as the community grapples with the shocking nature of the incident.
