“Power of social media. Apparently our plane is being fueled as we speak and we should be leaving to Nigeria shortly. Thanks for everyone’s support!”

“I REITERATE: We would NEVER treat a guest nation for a game in this way. Mistakes happen, delays happen. But never on purpose!”, skipper Williams Troost-Ekong wrote on X.

Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong has revealed that the Super Eagles are returning home after deciding not to play MD4 of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Libya.

Nigeria have complained bitterly about how they have been treated by Libya after being abondoned for 16hrs and not even been given food and drinks in North Africa.

The skipper earlier on had promised that they were never going to honour the game due to the ill treatment and are due to return home.

Nigeria were to play Libya on Tuesday night at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Benghazi.

The Super Eagles leads Group D with 7 points from 3 games, followed by Benin on 6, Rwanda on 2 and Libya with just 1. It was a crucial game for the North Africans as a defeat would end their dream for Morocco 2025.

CAF is yet to comment on the issue.
