A land conflict in the farming community of Gbiniyiri, located in Northern Ghana, has resulted in more than 20 fatalities and displaced thousands of residents, according to officials.
Families have experienced the loss of loved ones, and homes have been destroyed, including the Chief’s Palace.
Over 12,000 individuals, including children and elderly people, are currently residing in tents at the Sawla police station and depend on emergency assistance from the Red Cross for food, shelter, and medical support.
Security personnel have been assigned to manage the violence, but the situation is still unstable.
Ghana, which was previously known for its peace in West Africa, has experienced a decline in its Global Peace Index ranking, dropping from 38th place in 2021 to 61st place in 2025.
