Manchester United fans have called for a change in formation, but the manager is adamant about not listening to anyone.
“The only constant in life is change”, Greek philosopher Heraclitus said. The 40-year-old Portuguese manager believes that his methods will help the Red Devils return to the top table and has no reason to change them.
Change has been the constant word at Manchester United in the pre- and post-match conferences. Journalists have been reminding the manager of the need to alter his formation and system, but to no avail.
Ahead of Chelsea’s visit on Saturday night at Old Trafford, Amorim replied to a journalist when asked àbout when he is going to change his formation to suit his players.
He said, “No, no, no”. No one, not even the Pope, will change [me]. This is my job, this is my responsibility, this is my life. So, I will not change that.
“There will be an evolution, but we need to take all the good steps. If I’m a player and I have a coach that, with a lot of pressure and all around the world they are saying ‘you need to change the system’ – if I change in this moment, the players will look at me differently”, he added.
Amorim later hinted at a possible change, but not now, because he feels his players might doubt him.
“When you think about the impact that any decision is going to have on the team, everything is important. So, I will say the same thing: this will have to be an evolution. I’m doing things my way. Some guys do it differently, but the results will change. I hope to have the time to change, but they will change”, he continued. Amorim believes he needs much time to revolutionise Manchester United.
“I’m just trying to win games, trying to see what is the best option to win the next game. I’m trying to get the best connections to play better and, in the end, to win points.
“It’s about belief, confidence, aggression – it’s everything. And sometimes, what we call luck means we will play the game with more belief.
“I think like Liverpool. They are winning all their games. There’s something about the teams that are winning. Something is going to happen; you have that feeling. Sometimes, with us, I feel the opposite. We are playing well, but something is going to go wrong in some moments.
The manager thinks the club has been playing well and will need the luck, and Liverpool believes that things will be okay.
“We need to change that, but it’s just with wins. I can do whatever, but if you look at the goals against City and Fulham, all these moments can be stopped. When we scored against Burnley, we were good in the game, and then we almost took the draw. In all these moments, I think we can do better. It’s our fault. So we work on that during the week to improve”, he concluded.
The Red Devils have looked good in some moments in games and later fell apart unbelievably.
The club have won just four points from the opening four games and must win against Chelsea to calm things down.
