The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially commenced preparations for its 2026 presidential primary with the nationwide exhibition of the party’s voter register, a critical step aimed at safeguarding transparency and credibility in the internal electoral process.
The exercise, announced by the Presidential Elections Committee, forms part of broader reforms to strengthen internal democracy ahead of the party’s next leadership contest.
In a formal communication dated December 29, 2025, the party’s headquarters disclosed that the voter register for the 2026 presidential election has been distributed to all constituencies through their respective regional secretariats.
The exercise, which begins on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, and ends on Monday, January 5, 2026, is intended to give party members the opportunity to verify their personal details ahead of the highly anticipated presidential primaries.
According to the Presidential Elections Committee, the exhibition of the register is designed to promote transparency, accuracy, and confidence in the party’s internal electoral process.
Delegates are expected to confirm that their names, photographs, and personal details are correctly captured and to report any irregularities such as omissions, misspellings, incorrect images, or missing records.
The committee explained that the initiative forms part of a broader effort to eliminate disputes that have historically arisen from discrepancies in voter registers during party primaries.
By allowing early verification, the party hopes to minimize contestations, build trust among aspirants, and strengthen the legitimacy of the eventual outcome.
Regional and constituency executives have been tasked with overseeing the exercise at their respective levels, working closely with designated IT officers to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
In addition, constituency councils of elders, patrons, and electoral area coordinators have been urged to support the process and encourage full participation among eligible delegates.
In a move aimed at deepening transparency, the party has also called on all presidential aspirants to nominate representatives to observe the exhibition exercise across the constituencies.
This measure, according to party officials, is intended to foster confidence among all contestants and ensure that the verification process remains open, credible, and beyond reproach.
The voter register exhibition comes against the backdrop of heightened political activity within the NPP, as several high-profile figures prepare to contest the party’s presidential slot ahead of the 2028 general elections.
With internal competition expected to be keen, party leadership has emphasized the need for discipline, cooperation, and adherence to laid-down procedures.
By undertaking this nationwide verification exercise, the NPP says it is reaffirming its commitment to democratic principles and internal accountability.
The party leadership has expressed confidence that the process will strengthen unity, prevent future disputes, and lay a solid foundation for a credible and peaceful presidential primary in 2026.
