Kwabena Adu Boahene’s legal team has strongly rejected efforts to portray him and his wife, Angela Adjei Boateng, as common criminals.

In a statement, their lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, emphasized Boahene’s position as a former high-ranking official with international connections and Angela’s success in business, arguing they should not be subjected to public disgrace.

The defense also denied accusations that Boahene traveled economy class to evade recognition, clarifying he flew business class, which can be verified.

They further questioned the logic behind Boahene’s arrest, highlighting the absurdity of a “criminal” freely traveling through Kotoka International Airport rather than attempting escape via border routes.

Boahene’s arrest on March 20, 2025, by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) was linked to suspected embezzlement and money laundering involving a $7 million cyber defense contract.

His lawyers have condemned the manner of his arrest, calling it an attempt at persecution rather than a legitimate legal process.
