Opinion: Everything about Black Stars is overhyped

Everything about the Black Stars is overhyped. The players, Ghana football, Ghana Football Association and whatever that surrounds the team is overhyp

Everything about the Black Stars is overhyped. The players, Ghana football, Ghana Football Association and whatever that surrounds the team is overhyped.

No one will argue that this choice of words in the description of the current Black Stars is wrong.

The playing body

Ghana has a lot of players across Europe and they are playing extremely well for their respective clubs every weekend. Ghanaians and other Africans have always waxed lyrical about how good Ghanaian players are. With the talents at the national team’s disposal, why have they failed to even beat teams that fall within Grade F on the continent. Sudan is ranked 31 on the continent as Niger is 36. These are teams Ghana should be able to deal with so easily.

Ghana Football in toto has fallen down in the last 5 years albeit the Black Stars played in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

This is Ghana’s performance in the last 5 major tournaments: 4 AFCONs and 1 World Cup.

In the 2019 AFCON, Ghana alongside Cameroon, Benin and Guinea Bissau topped Group F with 5 points. The Black Stars lost on penalties in R16 against Tunisia.

2021 AFCON saw Ghana lost 3-2 to the almighty Comoros in the last game of the group after losing to Morocco and drawing with Gabon.

In the FIFA 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Ghana lost to Portugal and Uruguay and defeated South Korea.

The 2023 AFCON was so disastrous with Ghana losing 2-1 to Cape Verde and drawing 2-2 against egypt amd Mozambique.

In all, 13 games have been played in the last 4 major tournaments by Ghana, 2 wins, 5 defeats and 6 draws have been recored. It is so so sad.

Ghana is in deep pain and it seems nothing is saving the senior national team now. The unexpected has happened as Ghana’s chances of making it to the much-anticipated 2025 AFCON to be played in Morocco is just 5%.

Yes, only 5% chances now for Black Stars to play in Morocco 25 especially that the two main competitors of Ghana are ahead of the Black Stars in terms of head-to-head meetings.

Ghana Football Association

The Ghana Football Association has been absolutely disastrous as the the only team they use to defend themselves has failed them. Ghana’s Football is nothing to write home about and a total overhauling is needed for the nation to get back to business. The country’s club football is dead as none of the clubs compete at the highest level again. Asante Kotoko used to be the most fearful club on the continent but has been one of the poorest in the last two decades. Accra Hearts of Oak won treble in 2000 and the maiden edition of the CAF Confederation Cup in 2005 and has failed to reach the same level ever since.

Youth football is horrible because Ghana has failed to make impact in the FIFA U17 and U20 World Cups in recent years.

Now, everything about Ghanaian football is certainly overhyped.
