Oscar once said he doesn’t care about Balon d’Or but rather getting the cash to feed his family, friends and loved ones was his ultimate dream.
Oscar Dos Santos Emboaba Junior is his full name. Oscar was born in America in Brazil and was a national asset as Brazil considered him to be the apparent heir to Kaka’s throne.
In 2012, Chelsea announced a five-year deal for the Brazillian International worth £25m from Internacional. Oscar quickly became part of Chelsea and cemented a place in the team. After a successful four-year stay in London, he won two EPL titles, one Football League Cup and one Europa League title for the Blues.
In 2016, Shanghai Port paid an astonishing £60m to Chelsea for Oscar Junior’s signature. He was going to receive an astonishing £540,000 per week, £28,080,000 per year playing for Shanghai SIPG. The offer was lucrative so Oscar kissed Chelsea goodbye and moved to Asia.
After seven years of stay in Shanghai with Shanghai Port, the midfielder lifted three Chinese Super League titles, a Chinese FA Cup and a Chinese FA Super Cup.
Oscar will leave China as he confirmed in September. He told Brazilian newspaper Folha de S.Paulo in September 2024 that, “I would likely be leaving Shanghai at the end of the year. “I love Shanghai, but it’s just too far away from home for us,”.
“We can’t stay here forever. My mum is getting older, my sisters are having babies. We want to be closer to home,” the attacking midfielder said.
Many players left Europe and moved to the Chinese Super League but none was as loyal as Oscar.
Per news from Oscar’s closest allies, the Brazilian has made a whooping £175m in seven years since swapping England for China seven years ago.
