When former Black Stars, Ashanti Gold SC and Asante Kotoko’s goalkeeper George Owu opined that it would be very risky to start Benjamin Asare in the post at the expense of Ati Zigi and Joe Wollacott, many laughed at him. Some football fans considered his comments as so unfair because the 32-year-old Benjamin Asare is a very good goalkeeper who can offer the Black Stars a lot especially now that the team has been facing a goalkeeping crisis.

Otto Addo on Friday night started Benjamin Asare in the post and the Hearts of Oka’s number 1 keeper kept a clean sheet against Chad. it was a very proud moment for the goalkeeper as he fulfilled a childhood dream of playing for the senior national team.

In the post-match conference, Otto Addo was asked by the press to give a reason why he started Asare ahead of Lawrence Ati-Zigi.

“Benjamin Asare did better than Wollacott and Ati Zigi in training, that’s why we selected him,” Otto Addo said.

Benjamin Asare has been probably the best goalkeeper in the ongoing Ghana Premier League after putting up wonderful performances for the Phobians on so many occasions.

Ghana’s 5-0 thrashing of Chad has sent them to the top of Group I leading Madagascar, the second-place team by 2 points. The Black Star will face their closest rivals on the table in Morocco on Tuesday in a make-or-break tie.
