The controversy surrounding the gender eligibily test of Algeria’s Imane Khelif and China’s Ling Yu-ting was never going to end until the end of the women’e wealtherweight boxing at the ongoing Paris Olympic Games.
Khelif defeated China’s Ling 5-0 to lift gold medal in boxing.
Piers Morgan, 59, sparked a huge controversy by indirectly jabing the organizers of women boxing at the Paris Olympic for allowing two males to compete with women.
His controversy was not taken lightly by some fans as they replied by insulting him.
Fans roared, cheered and chanted ‘Khelif Khelif Khelif’ whenever the Algerian defended a punch or threw a punch against Ling of China in the finals.
Khelif’s gender controversy has been one of the most talked about topics in Paris in the last 14 days.
Khelif’s father congratulated her and said, “I’m proud of you, my daughter”.
Imane Khelif said after her victory, “As for whether I qualify or not, whether I am a woman or not, I have made many statements in the media.
“I am fully qualified to take part in this competition. I’m a woman like any other woman. I was born a woman, I lived a woman, I competed as a woman, there’s no doubt about that. [The detractors] are enemies of success, that is what I call them. And that also gives my success a special taste because of these attacks.”
