On Wednesday, October 9, 2024, a dispute between Ghana Police Service personnel and customs officials resulted in a heavy exchange of gunfire at the Missiga Immigration Service checkpoint in Bawku.
In a tweet on social networking platform X (formerly known as Twitter), TV3 cites credible sources as saying that the altercation started when police refused to allow Customs to search a vehicle traveling to neighboring Togo.
A heated standoff resulted from Customs’ suspicion that the vehicle was transporting illegal cocoa beans and their insistence on looking into it.
Before soldiers intervened, the situation had spiraled out of hand and there was a gunfight between the two state security organizations.
