The Ashanti South Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service has arrested three suspects believed to be part of a dangerous robbery network that has been terrorising communities in and around Obuasi.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, February 19, police said the arrests were carried out on February 15, 2026, following an intelligence-led operation at Mangoase near Pokukrom, where officers raided several hideouts allegedly used by the gang.

The suspects have been identified as Aziz Abubakar, popularly known as “Romeo”, Faraway Amari, and Patient Asare.

According to police, a search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of several dangerous weapons and items suspected to be linked to criminal activities.

These included a pump-action gun with ammunition, machetes, a bayonet, combat boots, a 9mm round, and an amount of GH¢20,000 in cash, believed to be proceeds from robbery operations.

Preliminary investigations, police say, have also linked two of the suspects to the killing of three people at Breme near Bechem in the Bono Region in March 2025, a case that has remained a major concern for security agencies.

The police noted that efforts are currently underway to trace and arrest other accomplices believed to be part of the gang, while additional operations are being mounted to recover more weapons possibly hidden in other locations.

The suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with investigations.

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has assured residents of Obuasi and surrounding communities of its commitment to clamping down on violent crime and restoring safety in the area.

Further updates are expected as investigations progress.
