Following severe criticisms from Russian allies, Turkey, Kenya, Brazil, Cuba, Iran and Venezuela, President Vladimir Putin has banned the recruitment of foreigners into the Russian army.

Many men have been recruited into the Russian army over the last two years from Africa, the Middle East and Asia to fill the spaces left by frontline casualties in the war against Ukraine.

Survivors have bitterly complained about Russia’s ill treatment of them – accusing Moscow of deceiving and lying to them.

The survivors have revealed that they were lured to Russia on false pretences after being promised study opportunities and better jobs.

A Kenyan mother recently demanded the return of his son, who was captured on video being forced to lead soldiers into war against Ukraine for the African Unionion to demand for and end to the recruitment.

Kenya has reported that more than 1,000 citizens have been recruited by Russia to the army to fight Ukraine in recent years.

“Kenya and Russia have had long relations since independence, literally. So this, in my view, becomes a very unfortunate episode of otherwise very positive and cordial relations between our two countries,” said Musalia Mudavadi, the foreign minister of Kenya.

Africans have been warned to resist any opportunity offered by Russia at the moment because it could be suicidal.

Ghana’s Foreign Minister, Okudzeto Ablakwa, in a visit to Ukraine earier in the week, implored Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine to be magnanimous and compassionate to release two Ghanaians who are arrested for fighting for Russia.
